Halloween Candy

Even Dum-Dums know where to get good Halloween candy.

RING! The phone rang for the fifth time that evening. It was Halloween and I had been getting prank phone calls from my friends all day. I picked up the phone, prepared to yell BOO before the person on the other end could. Instead I pressed the green talk button and waited. When I didn't hear anything I cautiously said, "Hello?"

"Hi Lexie, it's Alicia, I was wondering if you were available to baby sit Heath tonight?"

"Sure." I answered dully. When the phone clicked dead I sighed. Great. I'll be stuck watching a baby while everyone else is out trick-or-treating. This was the second year I would be unable to join in on the festive activities. Not because I didn't want to, but because my mom wouldn't allow me to. She believed I was too old to be running around in a costume and collecting candy. At least this would be a step up from passing out candy…

An hour later I was refreshed and on my way to Alicia's house. I looked out the window and saw the black and orange colors surrounding me. The scents of homemade pumpkin pies and caramel apples filled the air. Early trick-or-treaters were beginning to run from house to house-tearing up the owner's lawn. This made me laugh as I continued driving. When I reached the house it was already dark.

I parked my car and went up to the door covered with Halloween decorations, and rang the bell. I stood there waiting for almost five minutes and nothing happened. I began to get anxious and a little creeped out. This was not the day that I wanted to be standing out in the dark.

All of a sudden a mass of people came out from behind the bushes and all around the house. They were dressed in variety of costumes, some with blood drooling from their mouths and others with giant swords or other accessories. I screamed bloody murder before I realized what had happened.

I had secretly been invited to a Halloween party. Although I did not approve of their methods for welcoming me I was extremely pleased that I would be spending Halloween with friends and family.

When I walked inside, I saw masses of decorations. Pumpkins and Jack-O-Lanterns, multi-colored leaves, hanging spiders, ghosts, and more. Candy was bountiful and included some of my favorites like candy corn and little marshmallow pumpkins.

Alicia had also hired a magician to perform for the group. Although I stood out a little, as I was the only one not wearing a costume, I can safely say that that Halloween was the most memorable and enjoyable one I have had yet.Halloween
